Actinomycetes

Actinomycetes are group of Gram-positive bacteria. Their GC-rich genomes encode robust biosynthetic potential to produce secondary metabolites of broad structural diversity and commercial importance. Continued exploration of Actinobacteria due to their biotechnological significance has revealed their occurrence in a variety of sources across terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. My works since 2009 (supported at different levels by UGC and CSIR, Govt. of India) investigated diversity and biosynthetic capabilities of these bacteria from diverse environment types.
